you download an app to your PC and one to your phone. The PC screen is streamed to your phone which is then split for left and right eyes. Slip your phone into Google's Cardboard VR viewer, the phone acts as a movement sensor for looking around, all done over your wifi network.
The app is free, works for 10minutes, and the viewer is only around $6, or you can patch together your own with instructions from Google.
I've contacted the app developer, and they have replied there is a premium version with no time limit. I've ordered my viewer, and I'll give it a go, see how it works. Certainly get an idea how an expensive Occulus CV1 may work without forking out $700 for it plus another $1000 or more for a computer to run it.
